It's not something they'll be fixing overnight, and I doubt it's a high priority. Sighs. I'm glad to see that they're being proactive with these "confusing" foods, and as I know that changes to, well, ANYTHING in organizations can take a looooong time, I understand that they haven't quite got there yet. I always though having the foods that should be consumed more often in the base of the MyPyramid is pretty clever, but a concept I find that younger children don't really understand.

I try to limit the amount of added sugar I eat, but I always end up finding it in the most unexpected places! I'm interested to see what you find out about your own eats. I personally don't think french fries or potato chips should be considered a vegetable. I get that they are made out of potatoes, but I personally think that those fall in fats and oils at the top. I'm not saying people should never have fries but don't think you are being healthy or gaining nutrition by doing so.

Your walk looks awesome :) That's great that you did that!Kellyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03964218970797460632noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5287299798491768678.post-422242628628784632010-05-16T19:34:31.277-04:002010-05-16T19:34:31.277-04:00I love all of your questions about the pyramid! But I do try to make sure those added sugars are in actual desserts. Like I don't put sugar in my coffee and I almost always use unsweetened rice/almond milk. As for dairy, their definition is based on products retaining their calcium, so I can see why the calcium fortified products would meet their definition for inclusion. I remember with the old FGP we had those combination foods, where it was like 1 grains and 1 dairy and 1 veggie for a slice of pizza, or something like this. I would think french fries could work the same way. I personally do not think potatoes are a vegetable, it is more of the grains and starches group. I like that the exchange lists have a category for starchy veggies. Speaking of potatoes we had tons this weekend, so check my post tomorrow for the from scratch potato adventure. Technically, my current post has potatoes too. Oh well, potatoes are just abundant on this island! Glad the race had a great turnout.MelindaRDhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16523272874667790035noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5287299798491768678.post-43090948201706345702010-05-16T06:58:25.437-04:002010-05-16T06:58:25.437-04:00Oh I love that they've responded to your email...Oh I love that they've responded to your email and are actively looking into this!
