Do You Ever MOJO?

Are you a fan of snack bars? I have a love/hate relationship with them, but the Mixed Nut Clif MOJO bar is one of my favorites! Here are some of my thoughts on this delicious and cheap snack bar.

A Few Additional Comments

- Glycemic index, which I indicated "has to do with the fiber and protein" also has to do with the carbohydrate content of the food. It was designed for diabetics, but for some odd reason it has now become a huge marketing tool, making people believe that it's incredibly important for anyone to look for low glycemic index foods. There is some research that says the glycemic index isn't very helpful for blood sugar management, but some research says the opposite. Either way, I don't like it. Sure, it's good to know that a food won't cause a huge spike in blood sugar, but I would rather focus on having people look at labels for low sugar and higher fiber content, rather than focusing on glycemic index.

- The vitamin E from this bar isn't just from the almonds. They also added vitamin E. I don't always appreciate this, but I believe this was mainly for preservation purposes.

- You'll also find another source of sugar in this bar, called oat syrup. Just because it's from oats, doesn't mean it's any better for you. But again, the total sugar is only 8 grams so I'm still satisfied with this snack.

- For those of you following the low FODMAPs diet, I will just say that this bar may give you stomach troubles. Lately I have been paying attention to how I feel after eating these bars and sometimes I do get bloated and gassy. It could be all the different types of syrups, or the pretzels (with wheat), or the nuts, I'm not sure. I have found that eating only one half at a time doesn't bother me.

Question: Have you tried a MOJO?!

  1. I have tried SO many different kinds of bars and literally every single one of them makes my stomach feel terrible afterwards. So I officially no longer like bars :) Kind of annoying because it's such a quick and easy snack but obviously my stomach is telling me something!

  2. I've never tried this kind - I eat bars sometimes as an afternoon snack but I could give or take them usually...

  5. I don't do a lot of snack bars, simply because I'd rather just have a piece of fruit or a few nuts, unprocessed. But I'm not completely against bars as long as they're minimally processed. Haven't tried these, but they sound like a decent buy.

  7. I've never tried these bars but always wondered how they were! I have kind of shyed away from bars because I would rather enjoy a huge plate of veggies or fruit!

  8. I like Larabars the best just because of the short ingredient list and they actually do taste good! But I'm with you, definitely not the biggest fan of snack bars overall.

  9. Never tried these bars although they seem to be pretty good and nutritious. Im actually a big fan of Kashi granola bars--they're low in calories and pretty healthy overall. Will give mojo a try though (if I find them on sale :) )

  11. I eat the PB & Pretzel ones in a bind; I try to stay away from bars, because like you and others, they irritate my stomach.

  12. I like MOJO bars!! I am always weary of snack bars because they usually have so much added to them. The flavor is really good on this bar as well.

  14. Na, I'm not a big fan of bars. When I do eat them, it's usually a homemade 'Larabar'.

  15. This is one of my daughters favorites. I recently included some in a package I sent to her in Spain!

I ate my first one about a week ago and it was very good!

  16. I am in general not a bar fan. While I do enjoy a few flavors of Larabars, they can be pretty pricey. If they are at a discount I pick them up, if not I'd rather spend that money on some whole nuts and dried fruits.

  17. I can't watch your video just yet b/c I'm at work, but I love MOJO bars. My fave is the mountain mix. Salty, sweet, crunchy....YUM! I buy them by the box when I get to the US as we don't have them here.

  18. I can't watch the video from work either, but I will when I get home. I love your video blogs or vlogs as they're are so awesomely referred to :) I've never tried a Mojo bar, but I'm not a HUGE bar fan in general. I love love Larabars and Kind bars, though! YUMMM!!!

  19. I love these bars, but like you, I do not do bars like this too often. They are great because they fit in my purse, and they are satisfying and if I am having a run around kind of day I so like knowing they have added vitamins and minerals because I am more inclined to eat this than take a pill.

  21. I'm not a bar girl and I never have been. Probably because they are so expensive. I appreciate how you pointed out that oat syrup may not necessarily be better for you! Sugar is sugar :)
