It's one of our Orange Juice popsicles dipped in some plain yogurt and whipped cream. This was the perfect late night snack one evening. And as I mentioned in this post, we did not discard our orange juice pulp.
As Nick and I become more comfortable with our juicer, we're beginning to play around with other types of produce, thus producing more pulp! We recently made carrot juice. Half a bag of baby carrots made about 3/4 cups of carrot juice.
And of course the other half of the carrots went directly into the pulp container.
Discard the pulp? Heck no! That's all the fiber and other important plant nutrients that help fight chronic diseases. So what in the world have we been doing with our pulp?? Adding it to smoothies!
Starting from the bottom we have orange juice pulp, followed by carrot juice pulp, romaine lettuce (yes, romaine!), frozen blueberries, and one whole banana.
Before mixing the smoothie I added unsweetened vanilla almond milk and a dash of V8 Fusion Light.
Question: I know I've asked this already, but what are some fun juices you've created with or without a juicer? I would like to try some fun creations, but keep in mind I cannot eat apples, mangoes or pears.
I'm boring and like making orange juices, haha :D
ReplyDeleteI haven't made juice this year! But whenever I make some, it would be romaine, cucumber, celery, lemon and apple. Love its freshness!
ReplyDeleteIs that a Magic Bullet? I can't imagine my small blender working when it is that full & have been meaning to get a replacement.
ReplyDeleteI mix orange and cherry juice.
ReplyDeleteThat's so interesting! I've heard that the juicing process completely takes away all of the nutrients from the actual veggie and goes into the juice. I can't recall where I read it but I'm sure it wasn't anywhere credible haha. Thanks for the info!
ReplyDeleteLove that you put pulp back into your smoothies. Great fiber boost! I'd probably also add a little back into the OJ. My favorite juice combo. is carrot and ginger...it's sooo good. I had these spinach/green juice cocktails the other night that were awesome too...I'll try and see if I can snag the recipe from the person who made them.
ReplyDeleteGreat way to use the pulp!
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, all my favorite juice combos contain an apple. It mellows out all the produce and provides just a bit of sweetness. But I know you can't eat apples.
Oooh, great idea!! I'm always looking for something to make/do with the pulp leftover from my juices!
ReplyDeleteI love V8 Fushion Light but it is SO expensive! I wanted to get some at the grocery store this past weekend and had COMPLETE sticker shock - it was over $4 for the bottle!! Eek!
ReplyDeleteI love pineapple and banana blended with coconut milk. It's like a virgin pina colada :) I'm also a huge fan of just strawberry (or berry) banana with skim milk. Delicious :)
I am glad you talked about keeping the pulp! I hear from so many clients that they are just throwing this yummy ingredient away :(
ReplyDeleteMy favorite smoothie is a banana, some strawberries, and a splash of orange juice.
I bet some of the veggie pulps would freeze well. Then you could dump them into soups for some added bulk!! I can't eat apples or pears, either so I tend to stay away from juices b/c most seem to contain either one or both....
ReplyDeleteOh that dessert looks so good...it sort of reminds me of this orange dessert that I would make. I would cook an orange with light I cant believe its not butter and splenda on the the stove top, and then add vanilla yogurt and granola...yuuums
ReplyDeleteThank you for the reminder that I need to get my zoku off the counter and back in the freezer so I can start making pops.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you and Nick are having fun with your juicer! I don't have one, so I usually just stick to smoothies. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat idea, Gina!
ReplyDeleteI save leftover tea and coffee to mix into protein shakes. It adds flavor and a little bit of caffeine if I need a little booster shot.
Great idea, I feel such guilt tossing the pulp from my juicer. In terms of juices I find ginger, daikon radish, mint and parsley (not together) give juices zip and interest. Can't wait to hear about your creations.
ReplyDeleteMy Mum makes an orange juice, lime, celery and ginger combination which I really love.
ReplyDeleteYou can add the pulp to baked goods too!
ReplyDeleteNo juicer here. I do like to take just 1/4 cup of POM or other types of juice and add it to a glass of crushed ice and bubbly water. It looks pretty and has just enough flavor to make it taste like a treat.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh! That smoothie looks A-MA-zing. Yummy!
