Starting today, I am going to do a weekly post of my favorite nutrition, food and health-related articles from the week. Here is a look at this week's most interesting nutrition, food and health articles.
Nationwide Food Campaign Rolls Out!
(Just in time for summer, the FDA, CDC and USDA have teamed up to create some pretty entertaining and effective ads to remind you to be food safe!)
Is Saturated Fat Really the Dietary Bogeyman?
(I'm a huge fan of fat, as you all know, so this peaked my interest. Many people tell me they eat a low saturated diet, but they have no problem eating loads of white breads and pastas....not good!)

Diet Sodas Don't Help With Dieting
(The artificial sweeteners in diet sodas may actually be linked to weight gain. I'll still drink one every once in a while, but for caffeine, I'm still sticking to coffee (at least is has some health benefits)!)
U.S Is Becoming a Nation of Snackers!
(You hear it all the time, "you should have three meals and two snacks each day!", but I'm starting to think people think they should snack even when they aren't hungry. This, coupled with a poor snack choice, could be contributing to our nation's expanding waistlines)

Does Working Out On An Empty Stomach Really Allow You To Burn More Fat?
(Sounds nice, but not so much...)
Have a great Fourth of July everyone!

I will be looking forward to your educational and informative posts!
ReplyDeleteGreat articles and thoughts---it's always nice to get a snap shot view of health/nutrition headlines rather than having to sift through it all. Thanks!
ReplyDeletethese sound great. I'm checking them out right now! The artificial sweetener and weight gain sounds interesting!
ReplyDeleteGlad the party went well- the cake looks amazing! :) Thanks for the articles.
ReplyDeleteGood round up. I'm not a fan of fake sweeteners, but I often wonder if people who consistently drink diet soda happen to generally have a similar body type/diet/etc. that would make these two correlate.
ReplyDeleteHappy Fourth Gina!! I'll take a slice of that cake :)
Hi Gina, thanks for the roundup of articles. All very interesting. Have a wonderful 4th of July!!
ReplyDeleteHello! I am a fellow RD and have been a follower of yours for a while now. I have my own blog now- would love for you to stop by. By the way, your job sounds awesome- would love to do that when I return to work someday (maybe after baby #3).
ReplyDeleteSo sorry I have been MIA but I have been so busy with the traveling and the upcoming move. Thanks for taking the time to read my posts and comment during that time. Oh, and thanks for this post because I am behind on what is going on professionally too. Hope you had a nice 4th of July.
ReplyDeleteinteresting articles! I agree about snacking... it's supposed to supplement main meals but not to replace them, that's why I keep snacks at minimum, only when I get hungry so I have appetite for mail meals. :)
