Let's be honest. No women really wants flowers on Valentine's Day, they want chocolate (Nick, are you reading this??). Normally I'm not into tofu, but I am into chocolate, and the other day I experimented with silken tofu and came up with the following recipe with which you can woo your special girl or guy tomorrow.
Tofu Chocolate Mousse Heaven
(Makes ~2 servings)
Ingredients
12 ounces silken tofu (firm)
6 ounces dark chocolate (I used 85% dark)
3 T maple syrup (the real stuff!)
Berries for garnish and extra flavor/nutrition
Directions
1. Strain the tofu and then add it to a food processor, and blend well (for about 1-2 minutes).
2. Melt the chocolate in a double-broiler.
3. Once the chocolate is melted, add the maple syrup, and mix well (the texture will change dramatically, and it's ok!).
4. Add the chocolate/maple syrup combination to the pureed tofu. Puree everything together for about 1 minute.
5. Pour into a bowl and chill for about an hour.
6. Serve with berries.

QUESTION: Do you ever use silken tofu to make desserts? I'll be honest, I don't. Tofu gives me a stomachache, but I really wanted to try this recipe, and I'm glad I did!
What are you doing tomorrow for Valentine's Day? Anything? Nick and I are going to a dinner where I work (yes, I know, I'm a huge loser, but they serve the best Valentine's dinner!). Then we are coming back and whispering sweet nothings to each other. haha, jk.
Valentines Day...work/taking kids to tennis lessons, home for homework, dinner etc. Sexy, huh? I'm not a tofu fan but love chocolate in many forms. You do have a special guy if he eats tofu mousse, enjoy.
ReplyDeleteI made a similar version of this a long time ago and loved it for a while, it's so easy to make and so good. I bet tofu would be good to make cheesecake as well! :)
ReplyDeletetomorrow we are going out fir dinner at a nice place and we bring our mom with us! a romantic family dinner!
I LOVE silken tofu in desserts...so amazing. But I sometimes feel too dependent on it and feel I need to expand my horizons. =) So glad you posted this. The maple-chocolate combo sounds amazing.
ReplyDeleteI love tofu chocolate mousse's. They're so creamy and good. I'd be so happy (and pleasantly surprised) if a man ever made me mousse...with tofu in it too.
ReplyDeleteOh my this does look heavenly. I love tofu so much but why does it have to give us stomach problems? :( I still eat it once in awhile (organic) -- I noticed that I don't seem to have the same stomach problems with the organic version. Maybe it has something to do with the GMO tofu. I have to stay away from soy protein isolates. That really kills my stomach!
ReplyDeleteCan't WAIT to try this!
This sounds good! I may have to give it a try!
ReplyDeleteWe don't have any special Valentine's Day plans, but that's okay as we got to spend some quality time on Saturday at the beerwalk! :) Have a great time tomorrow!
I have used silken tofu - but never for dessert. Sounds good!
ReplyDeleteI'm honestly not the biggest fan of tofu but this would be a great way to disguise the taste a little!
Wow, I never would have thought tofu could be combined with chocolate to make such a healthy and tasty looking dessert! Thanks for sharing the recipe, can't wait to try it...it would be a perfect valentine's day treat!

ReplyDeletei'm slightly sensitive to soy, so i don't often use it in recipes, but this looks delish.
ReplyDeleteand i'm weird and would actually love flowers (preferably from the farmers' market) for v-day. ;)
I never got the flower thing either. I like flowers in nature, not stuck in a vase. Would much rather have chocolate! To be honest, not sure about the tofu mousse though, heh heh.
ReplyDeleteLooks really tasty! I use to make some things with Tofu but my family really didn't like it even though I did.
ReplyDeleteI might have to give it a try again.
We are dining at home today - and I will be making my Chocolate Mousse Yogurt!
