Tofu Chocolate Mousse Heaven

Let's be honest. No women really wants flowers on Valentine's Day, they want chocolate (Nick, are you reading this??). Normally I'm not into tofu, but I am into chocolate, and the other day I experimented with silken tofu and came up with the following recipe with which you can woo your special girl or guy tomorrow.

Tofu Chocolate Mousse Heaven
(Makes ~2 servings)

Ingredients

12 ounces silken tofu (firm)
6 ounces dark chocolate (I used 85% dark)
3 T maple syrup (the real stuff!)
Berries for garnish and extra flavor/nutrition

Directions

1. Strain the tofu and then add it to a food processor, and blend well (for about 1-2 minutes).

2. Melt the chocolate in a double-broiler.

3. Once the chocolate is melted, add the maple syrup, and mix well (the texture will change dramatically, and it's ok!).

4. Add the chocolate/maple syrup combination to the pureed tofu. Puree everything together for about 1 minute.

5. Pour into a bowl and chill for about an hour.

6. Serve with berries.

Nutrition Facts

So as you can see the tofu adds some protein and fiber to this dessert, but it's still not considered "healthy", so don't be fooled! But is it delicious? Oh yes. Absolutely.

QUESTION: Do you ever use silken tofu to make desserts? I'll be honest, I don't. Tofu gives me a stomachache, but I really wanted to try this recipe, and I'm glad I did!

What are you doing tomorrow for Valentine's Day? Anything? Nick and I are going to a dinner where I work (yes, I know, I'm a huge loser, but they serve the best Valentine's dinner!). Then we are coming back and whispering sweet nothings to each other. haha, jk.

  1. Valentines Day...work/taking kids to tennis lessons, home for homework, dinner etc. Sexy, huh? I'm not a tofu fan but love chocolate in many forms. You do have a special guy if he eats tofu mousse, enjoy.

  3. I LOVE silken tofu in desserts...so amazing. But I sometimes feel too dependent on it and feel I need to expand my horizons. =) So glad you posted this. The maple-chocolate combo sounds amazing.

  4. I love tofu chocolate mousse's. They're so creamy and good. I'd be so happy (and pleasantly surprised) if a man ever made me mousse...with tofu in it too.

  5. Oh my this does look heavenly. I love tofu so much but why does it have to give us stomach problems? :( I still eat it once in awhile (organic) -- I noticed that I don't seem to have the same stomach problems with the organic version. Maybe it has something to do with the GMO tofu. I have to stay away from soy protein isolates. That really kills my stomach!
    Can't WAIT to try this!

We don't have any special Valentine's Day plans, but that's okay as we got to spend some quality time on Saturday at the beerwalk! :) Have a great time tomorrow!

I'm honestly not the biggest fan of tofu but this would be a great way to disguise the taste a little!

  11. i'm slightly sensitive to soy, so i don't often use it in recipes, but this looks delish.

  12. I never got the flower thing either. I like flowers in nature, not stuck in a vase. Would much rather have chocolate! To be honest, not sure about the tofu mousse though, heh heh.
